Who Am I
Hi, I'm Sue Maitland — an International Coaching Federation (ICF) accredited professional coach who helps people navigate life's big transitions with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
After more than 20 years in IT consulting — project management, human resources, recruitment, and executive sales — I left the corporate world in 2013 to build the coaching practice I felt called to create.
I've called Victoria home for more than 30 years and love helping people build connections and a sense of belonging. I've delivered information sessions for hundreds of newcomers to the city, created a Networking for Success program to support their transition, and for the past eight years have hosted monthly Connection Nights at the Union Club to help members build meaningful relationships.
A few years ago, I discovered the Imposter Phenomenon and realized I'd been living with it for much of my own life. Understanding its impact transformed what I thought was possible for myself and my clients, and I've since integrated that lens into my coaching practice. Today, I'm passionate about helping others quieten their inner critic, recognize their achievements, and step into their full potential.
I'm an honorary lifetime member of Island Women in Science & Technology (iWIST) in recognition of my long-standing contribution to the organisation, including gifting every new member a complimentary coaching session. Most recently, I became a contributing author to the international bestselling book Midlife Re-Imagined: Making Big Changes at Any Age.
The biggest transitions in life rarely come with a roadmap. Coaching helps you draw one — with your own values, strengths, and what actually matters next.
Who I Help
I help people who feel stuck, uncertain, or ready for something more. They may be questioning their career direction, recovering from a setback, facing a major life transition, or simply feeling that life has more to offer.
Many of my referrals come from people who say, "You need to talk to Sue," when they meet someone questioning their next chapter or struggling to see what's possible.
My clients include professionals, executives, business owners, and people reinventing themselves at every stage of life. While I have a natural affinity for women in STEM, around half my clients are men. Common reasons people seek my support include:
- Finding greater purpose and fulfilment
- Reinventing themselves for a new career
- Navigating significant life changes
- Escaping a toxic workplace
- Rebuilding confidence after redundancy or an unsuccessful job search
- Planning an inspiring retirement
- Overcoming imposter syndrome and self-doubt
Many clients begin with a Clarity Coaching Call — a powerful stand-alone session designed to help them gain clarity around a specific challenge. For some, that's all they need to move forward with confidence. Others choose to continue through one-to-one coaching, or join my Connect & Thrive Community for online courses, weekly live coaching calls, and a supportive network of people committed to creating positive change.
I also deliver keynote presentations and workshops for organizations, businesses, and not-for-profits on topics including overcoming imposter syndrome, building confidence, and making meaningful connections.
Why People Work With Me
I've experienced many significant transitions myself — moving countries, rebuilding life after divorce, changing careers several times, and ultimately creating a business that reflects who I truly am. Those experiences help me connect deeply with clients, because I understand both the uncertainty and the excitement that real change brings.
Clients often tell me they appreciate the structure I bring to coaching. My project management background helps me turn ideas into practical, achievable plans, while my coaching keeps clients motivated and accountable as they bring those plans to life. Here's what working together looks like in practice:
- ICF-accredited coaching. A confidential, supportive space where you can safely explore challenges, discover new perspectives, and make decisions that are right for you.
- Practical structure. 20+ years of project management experience translates ideas into concrete, achievable plans — not just inspiration.
- Lived experience. Career changes, country moves, life reinvention — I've walked the road my clients are on, and that perspective shapes every session.
- Action steps after every session. Each coaching conversation is followed by comprehensive notes and practical next steps. Sessions are easy to book online.
- Money-back guarantee on the first session. The Clarity Coaching Call comes with a money-back guarantee, so you can try the work with confidence and very little risk.
If you know someone facing a major decision or life transition, I'd love the opportunity to help. Feel free to introduce us — or invite them to book a complimentary initial consultation.
